Adding New Pets

Getting Started

1. Navigate to the Pets section from the main menu
2. Click the Add a Pet button in the top-right corner
3. This will take you to the pet creation form

Pet Creation Form

The form is organized into sections that help you capture all important information about the pet:

Basic Information

• Name: Enter the pet's name (required). You can use the random name generator button for suggestions
• Species: Select from dog, cat, or rabbit (based on your organization's supported animals)
• Breed: Select one or more breeds from the dropdown. The list updates based on the selected species
• Sex: Select male or female
• Age: Choose from three flexible input methods:
• Age category (puppy/kitten, young, adult, senior)
• Birthday picker (if you know the exact date)
• Years and months (for estimated ages)
• Size: Choose from X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, or X-Large
• Coat Length: Select the appropriate coat length (options vary by species)
• Color: Select one or more colors from the species-specific color list

Health and Identification

• Status: Select the pet's current status (Intake, Available, Adopted, Fostered, etc.)
• Medical Conditions: Select any special needs or medical conditions
• Health: Rate the pet's overall health status
• Spayed/Neutered: Select Yes or No from the dropdown
• Microchip ID: Enter the microchip number (formatted as xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx)
• Custom ID: Add any internal identification number your organization uses
• Primary Veterinarian: Select from your organization's veterinarian list

Location and Intake

• Location Found: Describe where the pet was found (for strays)
• Reason for Surrender: Document why the pet was surrendered (if applicable)
• Intake Date: Select the date the pet entered your care
• Outcome Date: Record when the pet left your care (if applicable)

Behavior

• Temperaments: Select all personality traits that apply
• Bonded Pets: Link this pet with others that must be adopted together
• Compatible With: Select what this pet gets along with (dogs, cats, children, etc.)
• Incompatible With: Select what this pet should not be placed with
• Description: Create an engaging description using the AI-powered generator:
• Choose a writing tone (Playful, Sweet, Sassy, Goofy, Wise, Baby Talk, Sophisticated, or Creative)
• Select point of view (human perspective or pet's voice)
• Click "Generate Description" and edit as needed

Images and Videos

• Media Upload: Drag and drop or click to upload photos and videos
• Supports multiple file formats:
• Images: JPEG, PNG, WebP
• Videos: MP4, WebM, MOV
• Maximum 10 files (combined images and videos)
• Drag to reorder media files
• Click the star button to set the primary photo
• Videos display with a play button overlay
• Large videos are automatically compressed

Adoption Fee

• Fee Amount: Enter a custom adoption fee
• The system shows any matching fee rules based on the pet's attributes
• Links to fee settings if no rules apply

Saving the Pet Profile

1. Review all information for accuracy
2. Click the Save button at the bottom of the form
3. You'll be redirected to the new pet's profile page

Pet Visibility Settings

After creating a pet profile, you can control whether it appears in public searches:

1. On the pet's profile page, find the Visibility toggle (eye icon)
2. Toggle visibility on/off based on whether the pet is ready to be shown to potential adopters

Important Notes

• Required Field: Only the pet's name is required; all other fields are optional but recommended for better adoption outcomes
• Pet Limit: Your subscription determines how many active (non-archived) pets you can have in the system
• Media Best Practices: Clear, well-lit photos and videos increase adoption chances. Keep videos short (15-60 seconds) to showcase personality
• Public Display: Pets need at least one photo or video to be displayed publicly

Quick Tips

• Random Name Generator: Use the dice button next to the name field for creative name suggestions
• Species-Specific Fields: Breed, color, and coat length options automatically update based on the selected species
• Age Flexibility: Switch between age input methods without losing data - the system converts between formats
• AI Description Helper: Generate engaging descriptions quickly, then customize to add specific details
• Bonded Pets: Select other pets that should be adopted together with this pet
• Batch Upload: For adding many pets at once, consider using the data uploader feature
