Undo Adoptions

How to reverse an adoption in PawPlacer when circumstances require

Sometimes circumstances change or errors need to be corrected in the adoption process. PawPlacer makes it straightforward to undo an adoption when needed, while preserving important records and information.

Finding the Adoption

Start by heading to the Adoptions page from your sidebar. You can quickly locate the specific adoption using:

  • The search bar
  • Available filters
  • Scrolling through recent adoptions

Once you find the adoption, click to view its details.

Reversing the Adoption

The process is simple:

  1. Look for the '... More' menu on the adoption details page
  2. Select Undo Adoption from the menu options
  3. Review the confirmation dialog
  4. Consider documenting the reason for reversing the adoption - while this isn't required in PawPlacer, it can be helpful for your shelter's records.
  5. Confirm your choice to reverse the adoption

What Happens Next

When an adoption is reversed, PawPlacer automatically:

  • Disconnects the pet from the adopter's profile
  • Returns the pet to 'Intake' status, making them available for future adoption or fostering
  • Removes the adoption record while maintaining the adopter's profile information

This ensures your shelter's records stay organized while giving you the flexibility to handle changing situations.

Remember, you can always process a new adoption for the pet once they're back in the system. The pet's status will immediately update across all areas of PawPlacer, making them visible to potential new adopters.
