The Microchips settings page lets your team connect a PetLink account and prepare prepaid microchip registrations from PawPlacer. It is currently marked beta and supports PetLink prepaid chips.
Accessing Microchips
- Open Settings
- Make sure the settings sidebar is showing Organization Settings
- Click Microchips
Admins, Pet Managers, and Developers can manage microchip registrations. Other users may see a permission notice instead of management actions.
PetLink Connection
The PetLink Connection panel stores the PetLink email and password used for registration actions.
To connect PetLink:
- Enter your PetLink email address
- Enter your PetLink password
- Click Test Connection to validate the credentials
- Save the connection after validation succeeds
If credentials are already configured, the page shows a summary with the stored email and password status. Use Edit to update the email or replace the password. Leaving the password field blank keeps the existing saved password.
Prepaid Chip Requirement
PawPlacer checks whether a microchip is prepaid before submission. Registrations can only be submitted to PetLink when the chip validates as prepaid. If validation says the chip is not prepaid, correct the chip inventory issue in PetLink before trying again.
Registrations List
The Microchip Registrations panel shows registrations for your account. Each row includes:
- Pet name
- Vendor, when available
- Microchip code
- Status
- Last error, when a registration needs attention
Click a registration to open its detail page.
Adding a Registration
Click Add Microchip to open the registration form. You can:
- Select the pet
- Enter the microchip code
- Fill pet details required by PetLink
- Choose an owner source from manual entry, adopter records, or foster records
- Fill owner contact and address details
- Accept the required terms
When you select an existing pet, PawPlacer can fill known pet details into the registration form. Owner source selection can also prefill contact information from an adopter or foster record.
Registration Statuses
- Pending Validation: The registration is saved but has not been validated
- Ready to Submit: PetLink validation passed and the prepaid chip check succeeded
- Registered: The registration was submitted to PetLink
- Error: Validation or submission failed and needs review
- Transfer Required: PetLink indicates an existing registration or transfer issue needs attention
Validation and Submission
Open a registration detail page to validate or submit it.
Validation checks the microchip format, confirms the chip is prepaid, and checks whether PetLink already has a conflicting registration. After a registration validates and is prepaid, click Submit to PetLink to create the owner account and register the pet to that owner.
After submission, the registration details are locked from normal editing. Draft and error registrations can be edited or deleted.
Permissions
Admins, Pet Managers, and Developers can manage PetLink credentials, add registrations, validate microchips, submit registrations, edit drafts or errors, and delete eligible registrations.
