Donation Amounts

Set up donation options to support your organization's mission

The Donation Amounts page lets you configure the preset donation options that adopters see during the adoption checkout. Donations are always optional; adopters can skip this step entirely. Well-chosen amounts with clear descriptions can meaningfully increase contributions. You'll find this page under Settings > Donation Amounts.

Suggested Amounts

PawPlacer provides a set of ready-made donation options you can add with a single click:

  • $25: Cover a vaccination
  • $50: Cover a microchip
  • $100: Cover a spay/neuter procedure
  • $250: Cover an exam
  • $500: Cover a healthy pet stay
  • $1,000: Be a hero

To add one, click the + button on its card. It will immediately appear in your Selected Amounts section.

Creating Custom Amounts

If the suggested amounts don't fit your needs, create your own:

  1. Scroll to the Selected Amounts section.
  2. In the blank card at the end of your list, enter a dollar amount and a short description of what the donation funds.
  3. Click Add.

Editing and Removing Amounts

Click the pencil icon on any saved amount to update the value or description, then click Save. Click the trash icon to remove it.

How Adopters See Donations

During the adoption flow, after agreeing to your terms, adopters land on a donation screen. They see your preset amounts as selectable cards, each showing the amount and your description. They can also enter a custom amount of their own. Adopters who don't wish to donate can click Skip to proceed directly to payment.

If the adopter selects a donation and pays via Stripe, the donation appears as a separate line item on the Stripe Checkout page alongside the adoption fee. For other payment methods, the donation is added to the total shown in the payment summary. Either way, 100% of the donation goes to your organization.

Display Order

Amounts are shown to adopters in ascending order (smallest to largest).

Permissions

Only users with Admin privileges can add, edit, or remove donation amounts.

Tips

  • Keep descriptions brief and specific. "Cover a spay/neuter" is more compelling than "Support our mission."
  • Offering four to six options gives adopters a clear range without overwhelming them
  • PawPlacer shows a warning if you create an amount above $5,000, since unusually large presets may discourage donors from choosing any option
