Understanding and navigating the task board system in PawPlacer

Kanban Board Overview

The PawPlacer task management system uses a kanban board approach to help you organize and track work efficiently. This visual task management system lets you see the status of all tasks at a glance and easily move them through different stages of completion.

What is a Kanban Board?

A kanban board is a visual task management tool that displays your tasks as cards organized in columns. Each column represents a stage in your workflow (like "To Do," "In Progress," and "Done").

In PawPlacer, you can create multiple boards for different purposes (e.g., "Dog Adoptions," "Cat Intakes," "Volunteer Coordination") and customize each board with the columns that make sense for your process.

Accessing Task Boards

  1. From the main navigation menu, click on Boards
  2. You'll see a list of all available boards
  3. Click on any board to open it

If you don't have any boards yet, you'll see an option to create your first board.

Understanding the Board Layout

When you open a board, you'll see:

  • Board title at the top
  • Columns arranged horizontally across the screen
  • Task cards within each column

Each task card displays key information:

  • Task name
  • Due date (if set)
  • Tags (color-coded labels)
  • Assigned pets (if applicable)
  • Assigned team member (if applicable)

Navigation and Special Features

  • Filter by tags: Use the tag dropdown at the top of the board to filter tasks by specific tags
  • Show/hide archived: Toggle the archive button to show or hide archived tasks
  • Column scrolling: If you have many columns, use horizontal scrolling to navigate

Getting Started

If this is your first time using the task board system:

  1. Create a board for a specific area of your operations
  2. Add columns that represent your workflow stages
  3. Create tasks and place them in the appropriate columns
  4. As work progresses, drag tasks between columns
