Managing Existing Tasks
Once you've created tasks, you'll need to update them as work progresses. PawPlacer provides several ways to manage tasks throughout their lifecycle.
Opening and Editing Tasks
To view or edit the details of a task:
- Click on any task card on your board
- The task details dialog will open
- Make any necessary changes to:
- Task name
- Description
- Due date
- Pet assignments
- Assignee
- Tags
- Click "Update Task" to save your changes
All changes will be reflected immediately on the board.
Moving Tasks Between Columns
As work progresses, you'll want to move tasks through your workflow. There are two ways to do this:
Drag and Drop Method
- Click and hold on a task card
- Drag it to a different column
- Release to drop it in place
Tasks will automatically be positioned at the bottom of the column unless you drop them between specific tasks.
Column Change via Edit
- Open the task
- Make your edits
- Click "Update Task"
Setting Task Priority
While there isn't an explicit priority field, you can indicate priority in several ways:
- Using tags: Create priority tags like "Urgent," "High," "Medium," "Low" with appropriate colors
- Column order: Manually drag more important tasks to the top of a column
- Due dates: Set earlier due dates for more urgent tasks
Duplicating Tasks
To create a copy of an existing task:
- Click the three dots (⋮) menu on any task card
- Select "Duplicate"
- A new task will be created with the same details and "(Copy)" added to the name
- Edit the copy as needed
This is useful for recurring tasks or when creating similar tasks for different pets.
Archiving Tasks
When a task is completed but you want to keep a record of it:
- Click the three dots (⋮) menu on the task card
- Select "Archive"
- The task will be removed from the main view
To view archived tasks:
- Click the archive toggle button in the top right of the board
- Archived tasks will appear in their respective columns
To restore an archived task:
- Make sure archived tasks are visible (toggle on)
- Find the archived task
- Click its three dots (⋮) menu
- Select "Unarchive"
Deleting Tasks
If you need to permanently remove a task:
- Click the three dots (⋮) menu on the task card
- Select "Delete"
- Confirm the deletion when prompted
Caution: Deleted tasks cannot be recovered. Consider archiving instead if you might need the information later.
Filtering Tasks
To focus on specific tasks:
- Use the tag filter at the top of the board
- Select one or more tags to display only tasks with those tags
- Clear the filter to see all tasks again
Task Management Best Practices
- Update task status regularly by moving cards between columns
- Add comments or update descriptions as new information becomes available
- Review due dates periodically and adjust if needed
- Archive completed tasks rather than deleting them to maintain a history
- Use consistent tagging to make filtering more effective
- Reassign tasks when team responsibilities change
- Break down large tasks into smaller, more manageable tasks
By effectively managing your tasks, you'll ensure clear communication and smooth workflows for your team.
