Creating and Configuring Tasks
Tasks are the individual work items that need to be completed. In PawPlacer, tasks can be richly detailed with information that helps your team understand what needs to be done, who's responsible, and when it's due.
Adding a New Task
- Open the board where you want to add a task
- Locate the column where the task should start
- Click the "Add Task" button at the bottom of the column
- A task creation dialog will appear
Task Information Fields
The task creation form includes several fields:
Required Fields
- Task Name: A clear, concise title for the task (required)
Optional Fields
- Description: Detailed information about what needs to be done
- Due Date: When the task needs to be completed (includes time)
- Pets: Link the task to specific pets in your database
- Assignee: The team member responsible for completing the task
- Tags: Color-coded labels to categorize the task
Assigning a Task to Pets
Tasks can be associated with one or more pets:
- Click in the pets field
- A popover will appear showing available pets
- Search for pets by name if needed
- Click on pet avatars to select them
- Selected pets will appear as badges in the field
This linking helps you:
- See all tasks related to a specific pet
- Track pet-related activities across your organization
- Ensure no pet-specific needs are overlooked
Assigning a Task to a Team Member
To assign responsibility for a task:
- Click in the assignee field
- A popover will appear showing team members
- Search by name if needed
- Click on a team member to assign them
Note: You can only assign tasks to active team members with appropriate permissions.
Setting a Due Date
To specify when a task should be completed:
- Click the date picker field
- Select a date from the calendar
- Choose a time from the time selector
- Click outside the picker to confirm
Tasks with due dates will appear in the schedule view and can trigger reminders.
Using Tags
Tags help categorize and filter tasks:
- Click in the tags field
- Select from available tags
- You can select multiple tags for a single task
If you need a new tag:
- Click "Create a Tag" in the tag popover
- Enter a name
- Select a color
- Click "Create a Tag"
Saving Your Task
Once you've entered all the necessary information:
- Click the "Create Task" button at the bottom of the form
- The task will appear in the column you selected
Task Creation Best Practices
- Be specific with task names - avoid vague descriptions
- Include all relevant details in the description
- Set realistic due dates that provide enough time for completion
- Use consistent tags across your boards
- Only assign to team members who have the capacity to complete the task
- Link to relevant pets to maintain clear connections
