Best Practices for Task Assignment
Assigning Tasks Effectively
- Match tasks to skills - assign tasks to team members with the right expertise
- Balance workloads - check team members' existing assignments before adding more
- Be clear with expectations - include sufficient details in the task description
- Set realistic due dates - consider the assignee's schedule and other responsibilities
- Discuss before assigning - for complex tasks, talk to the team member before assigning
For Assignees
- Check your dashboard daily for newly assigned tasks
- Update task status as you make progress
- Communicate obstacles if you encounter difficulties completing a task
- Ask questions if a task description is unclear
For Managers
- Review unassigned tasks regularly to ensure nothing falls through the cracks
- Follow up on overdue tasks in a supportive way
- Adjust assignments as priorities change
- Recognize completed work to maintain team motivation
Troubleshooting Assignment Issues
- Cannot find a team member in the selector: They may not have an active account or appropriate permissions
- Team member cannot see assigned task: Check that they have access to the board where the task is located
- Too many tasks assigned to one person: Consider redistributing work or adjusting deadlines
- Assignments being changed without notice: Review the activity log and discuss communication protocols with your team
