How to view and manage tasks from your main dashboard

Your PawPlacer dashboard provides quick access to your tasks without having to navigate to specific boards. This helps you stay on top of your work from the moment you log in.

Understanding the Dashboard Task Area

The dashboard displays tasks in two main areas:

  1. Today's Tasks: Shows tasks due today in a side panel
  2. Schedule View: Displays tasks and events in a calendar-like timeline

This integration puts your tasks front and center in your daily workflow.

Today's Tasks Panel

The Today's Tasks panel shows all tasks due today, sorted by time. For each task, you'll see:

  • Task name
  • Due time
  • A button to open the full task details

To manage a task from this panel:

  1. Click on any task in the list
  2. The task details dialog will open
  3. Make any necessary changes
  4. Click "Update Task" to save

This panel helps you prioritize your day by highlighting what needs immediate attention.

Schedule View

The Schedule View shows tasks (and events) in a calendar format. Tasks appear based on their due dates and times. From this view, you can:

  • See tasks for today and upcoming days
  • Click on any task to view or edit its details
  • Navigate between days using the arrow buttons
  • See which pet or team member is associated with each task

To navigate the schedule:

  1. Use the left and right arrows to move between days
  2. Click on any task to open its details
  3. Tasks are color-coded based on their tags for easy identification

Quick Search

The dashboard also includes a quick search function that can find tasks:

  1. Type in the search bar at the top of the dashboard
  2. Results will update as you type
  3. Tasks matching your search terms will appear in the results
  4. Click on any task in the results to open it

This is especially useful when you need to quickly find a specific task without remembering which board it's on.

Creating Tasks from the Dashboard

You can create new tasks directly from the dashboard:

  1. Click on a task in the results to edit it
  2. When viewing task details, you can make changes and save them immediately

This allows you to quickly capture new tasks without navigating away from your dashboard.

Dashboard Tasks and Filters

The dashboard intelligently shows you relevant tasks based on:

  • Due date (highlighting today's tasks)
  • Your assignments (tasks assigned to you)
  • Recent activity (recently created or modified tasks)

Best Practices for Dashboard Task Management

  • Check your dashboard at the start of each day to see what's due
  • Use the search feature when you need to quickly find a specific task
  • Update task statuses directly from the dashboard to keep information current
  • Create new tasks from the dashboard when you think of something that needs to be done
  • Use the schedule view to plan your work across the coming days
  • Set appropriate due dates and times to ensure tasks appear correctly in the schedule

The dashboard task integration helps you maintain awareness of what needs to be done without having to dig through multiple boards and columns.
