Filling Forms
Switch to Fill Form mode using the toggle in the toolbar. In this mode, each field becomes an input you can type into, and your entries appear directly on the form image.
Entering Data
Click on any field and start typing. Each field type works slightly differently:
- Text fields: type freely; a dashed underline shows the input area.
- Date fields: click to open a date picker.
- Checkboxes: click to toggle on or off.
- Signature fields: click to open a drawing canvas where you can sign with your mouse or finger.
Fields show numbered tab-order badges so you can press Tab to move through them in a logical reading order (top to bottom, left to right).
Linking a Record for Auto-Fill
The real power of Form Filler is connecting it to your existing data. When you're in Fill mode, the Entity Context Bar appears below the toolbar.
- Choose the record type: Pet, Adopter, Foster, or Volunteer
- Search for and select a specific record
- Any field that has a "Maps to" binding (set during field editing) automatically fills with the matching data from that record
For example, if you bound a field to "name" and select an adopter named Sarah Johnson, that field fills in with "Sarah Johnson" automatically.
Available Bindings by Entity Type
| Entity | Bindable Fields |
|---|---|
| All types | Name, Status. |
| Adopter / Foster / Volunteer | Email, Phone, Address. |
| Pet | Species, Breed, Sex, Age, Weight, Color, Microchip ID, Custom ID, Intake Date, Adoption Fee. |
| Foster | Capacity. |
| Volunteer | Skills, Interests, Preferred Roles, Languages, Certifications. |
Auto-fill never overwrites values you've already typed in manually. It only populates empty fields.
Clearing Values
Click Clear Values in the toolbar to wipe all entered data and start fresh. This resets every field to blank without affecting the template layout.
Required Fields
Fields marked as required show a red asterisk. If you try to save the form as a document or share it via email, the system checks that all required fields have values and highlights any that are missing.
Zoom and Font Size
- Use the zoom controls to zoom in (up to 3x) or out (down to 0.5x) on the form.
- Use A−/A+ to adjust the text size across all fields at once.
