Managing Events and Tasks from the Dashboard
Your PawPlacer dashboard allows you to quickly view and manage both events and tasks, helping you keep your shelter activities organized and on schedule.
Events vs. Tasks: What's the Difference?
In PawPlacer, there are two main types of scheduled activities:
- Events: Scheduled activities typically involving external participants (adoption events, fundraisers, meet-and-greets)
- Tasks: Internal activities and to-dos for staff (feeding, medication, cleaning, paperwork)
Both appear in your Schedule View but have different features and are managed slightly differently.
Viewing Event Details
To view an event's complete information:
- Locate the event in your Schedule View (blue items)
- Click on the event
- The Event Details dialog will open showing:
- Event name and description
- Date and time
- Location details
- Associated pets
- Any notes or attachments
Managing Events
From the Event Details dialog, you can:
- Edit Event: Update any details such as time, location, or description
- Add/Remove Pets: Change which animals are associated with this event
- Delete Event: Remove the event if it's been canceled
- Duplicate Event: Create a copy for recurring events
Viewing Task Details
To access task information:
- Either click a task in the Schedule View or in the Today's Tasks panel
- The Task Details dialog will open showing:
- Task name and description
- Due date and time
- Priority level
- Assigned team members
- Associated pets
- Status (pending, in progress, completed)
Managing Tasks
From the Task Details dialog, you can:
- Update Status: Mark tasks as in progress or completed
- Edit Details: Change description, time, or other information
- Reassign: Change which team members are responsible
- Add/Remove Pets: Update which animals are associated with this task
- Delete Task: Remove tasks that are no longer needed
- Duplicate Task: Create a copy, useful for recurring tasks
Color Coding and Organization
Both events and tasks use color coding to help you identify them at a glance:
- Events: Typically appear in blue
- Tasks: Color varies based on tag/category:
- Purple: General tasks
- Green: Care tasks
- Orange: Medical tasks
- Pink: Urgent tasks
Finding Past or Future Items
To locate events or tasks outside the current Schedule View:
- Use the date navigation arrows to move forward or backward in time
- Use Quick Search to find specific events or tasks by name
- Access the full Events or Boards pages from the main navigation for more comprehensive management
Tips for Effective Event and Task Management
- Review your Schedule View daily to stay on top of all activities
- Update task statuses promptly to maintain accurate records
- Associate pets with relevant events and tasks to track their activities
- Use consistent naming conventions for similar events and tasks
- Take advantage of the duplicate feature for recurring activities
