What Are Adopters?
Adopters are individuals or families who have applied to adopt pets from your organization. They can be in various stages of the adoption process:
- Prospective Adopters: People who have shown interest in specific pets but haven't completed the adoption
- Approved Adopters: Individuals with active status who can adopt pets
- Pending Applications: People who have submitted applications awaiting review (often from your public website)
- Restricted Adopters: Individuals on hold, suspended, or flagged as do not adopt
- Past Adopters: People who have successfully adopted pets from your organization
Adopters Dashboard
The Adopters dashboard provides a comprehensive view of all adopter records in your organization's database.
Accessing the Adopters Dashboard
- Log in to your PawPlacer account
- Click on "Adopters" in the main navigation menu
- You'll see a list of all adopters in your system
Adopters Table Features
The main Adopters page displays a table with key information:
- Name: The adopter's full name
- Prospective Pets: Pets the adopter is interested in but hasn't yet adopted
- Adopted Pets: Pets the adopter has successfully adopted
- Last Updated: When the adopter's record was last modified
Filtering and Searching
You can filter the adopters list by status:
- Click the filter dropdown at the top of the table
- Select one of the following options:
- All: Shows all adopters
- Active: Adopters approved to adopt pets
- Pending: Applications awaiting review
- On Hold: Adopters who can keep current animals but shouldn't receive new assignments
- Do Not Adopt: People flagged and not allowed to adopt
- Suspended: People suspended from adopting
- Inactive: No longer actively able to adopt
To search for a specific adopter:
- Type their name in the search bar above the table
- The list will automatically filter to show matching results
Quick Previews
For a quick overview of an adopter without opening their full profile:
- Click the eye icon (👁️) at the end of an adopter's row
- A sidebar will appear showing:
- Contact information
- Pets they're interested in
- Pets they've adopted
Managing Adopter Records
Adding a New Adopter
- From the Adopters dashboard, click the "+ Add an Adopter" button
- Fill out the adopter information form with:
Contact Information
- Name (required)
- Email address
- Phone number
- Age
Household Information
- Address
- Home type (apartment, house, condo, farm, ranch, mobile home, townhouse, other)
- Home size (tiny, small, medium, large)
- Other pet types (select all that apply)
Employment Information
- Occupation
- Employer
- Employer email
- Employer phone
Co-applicant Information (if applicable)
- Name
- Phone
- Relationship to primary applicant
- Click "Add Adopter" to save the record
Viewing Adopter Profiles
To see complete details for an adopter:
- Click on any adopter's name in the table
- This opens their detailed profile page showing:
Basic Information
- Name
- Age
- Phone
Household Information
- Address
- Home type
- Home size
- Other pet types
Employment Information
- Occupation
- Employer
- Employer contact details
Co-applicant Information (if applicable)
- Co-applicant details
- Relationship
Additional Information
- Notes section
- Documents
- Status alerts (for pending, on hold, do not adopt, suspended, or inactive statuses)
- Adopted pets
- Prospective pets
Editing Adopter Information
- From an adopter's profile page, click the "Edit" button
- Make changes to any fields as needed
- Click "Update Adopter" to save your changes
Processing Adoptions
Adoptions are processed directly from adopter profiles:
- Ensure the adopter has prospective pets assigned
- Click the "Adopt" button on their profile
- Choose between QR code or current device processing
- Complete the adoption workflow
