Understanding Adoption History
Adoption history in PawPlacer refers to the complete record of:
- Which pets an adopter has shown interest in
- Which pets they've successfully adopted
- The timeline of adoption events
- Related details like returns or multiple adoptions
This history is accessible from both the pet's perspective and the adopter's perspective.
Viewing History from an Adopter's Profile
Adopted Pets Section
On an adopter's profile:
- Navigate to the "Pets" section on the right side
- You'll see two categories:
- Adopted Pets: Pets this person has successfully adopted
- Prospective Pets: Pets they're currently interested in
For each adopted pet, you can see:
- The pet's name and image
- The adoption date
- A link to the pet's profile
Accessing Complete Adoption Details
For more detailed information about a specific adoption:
- From the adopter's profile, click on an adopted pet
- This takes you to the pet's profile
- Click the "History" button
- Select the "Adopters" tab
- Here you'll see complete details about the adoption process

Pet History Button
To access a pet's complete adoption history:
- Navigate to the pet's profile
- Click the "History" button in the top-right corner
- A dialog will open with two tabs: "Fosters" and "Adopters"
- Select the "Adopters" tab
Adoption History Details
In the Adopters tab, you'll see:
- A chronological list of all adopters who have been connected to this pet
- The date each connection was created
- The current status (interested, adopted, or returned)
Viewing Adopter Details
To see detailed information about an adopter from the pet's history:
- Click on the adopter's name in the history dialog
- An accordion panel will expand showing:
- Contact information
- Address details
- Other pets they've adopted or shown interest in
- Notes or other relevant information
Returns and Multiple Adoptions
PawPlacer tracks when pets are returned or adopted multiple times.
Tracking Returns
If a pet is returned after adoption:
- The return is documented in the pet's history
- Both the return date and reason are recorded
- The pet's status changes back to "Available" or another appropriate status
- The previous adoption record is maintained for reference
Multiple Adoptions
If a pet has been adopted more than once:
- Each adoption appears as a separate entry in the pet's history
- Adoptions are listed chronologically with the most recent first
- All adoption records are maintained for accurate history
Printing Adoption History
To print a pet's complete history for record-keeping:
- From the pet's profile, click the menu (three dots)
- Select "Print"
- A printer-friendly page will open with all details including:
- Pet information
- Medical history
- Foster history
- Adoption history
Finding All Adoptions for a Specific Period
To see all adoptions within a specific timeframe:
- Navigate to the Reports section of PawPlacer (if available)
- Select the Adoptions report
- Filter by date range
- View or export the resulting list
Best Practices for Maintaining Accurate History
- Complete All Fields: Fill out all information when processing adoptions
- Document Returns: Always record the reason when a pet is returned
- Update Statuses Promptly: Change a pet's status as soon as they're adopted or returned
- Add Notes: Include relevant notes about the adoption process or outcome
- Regular Audits: Periodically review adoption records for accuracy and completeness
