How Pet Connections Work
In PawPlacer, pets can be connected to adopters in two different ways:
- Prospective Pets: Pets the adopter is interested in but hasn't yet adopted
- Adopted Pets: Pets the adopter has successfully adopted
Adding Pets to an Adopter's Profile
From the Adopter's Profile
- Navigate to the adopter's profile by clicking their name in the Adopters list
- In the "Pets" section on the right side of the profile, click the "+ Add Pet" button
- In the dialog that appears, select one or more pets from your organization
- Use the search function if you need to find specific pets
- If a pet has bonded pets, these will be automatically selected as well
- Optionally, add notes about the adopter's interest in these pets
- Click "Add Pets to Adopter" to confirm
Important: Adding Pets Before Adoption
You must add prospective pets to an adopter's profile before you can process an adoption. The "Adopt" button only appears when an adopter has at least one prospective pet assigned.
This ensures:
- Clear tracking of which pets an adopter is interested in
- Proper documentation of the adoption process
- Accurate adoption records and history
Managing Prospective Pets
Viewing Prospective Pets
On an adopter's profile, the "Pets" section shows all prospective and adopted pets.
The "Pending" badge indicates pets that the adopter is interested in but hasn't yet adopted.
Removing Prospective Pets
If an adopter is no longer interested in a pet:
- Go to the adopter's profile
- In the "Pets" section, find the pet with the "Pending" badge
- Click the "Remove" button next to the pet
- Confirm the removal in the dialog that appears
- The pet will be removed from the adopter's profile and return to "Available" status
