When to Transfer
Transfers are used when a pet needs to move from one foster home to another. Common reasons include:
- The current foster is going on vacation or has a change in availability.
- The pet needs a foster with different skills or experience (for example, medical care or behavioral support).
- Capacity adjustments across foster homes.
- The current foster can no longer care for the pet.
How to Transfer an Assignment
- Go to the current foster's profile and open the Assignments tab
- Find the active assignment you want to transfer
- Click the Transfer button on the assignment card
- In the transfer dialog:
- Select the new foster from the dropdown. The list shows each foster's name, current assignment count, and capacity (e.g., "Jane Doe (2/5)"). The current foster is excluded from the list.
- Enter a transfer reason (required): Explain why the pet is being moved. This is recorded on the assignment for future reference.
- Click Transfer to complete
What Happens During a Transfer
When you transfer an assignment:
- The original assignment is marked as Completed with the end date set to the current date.
- A new assignment is created for the receiving foster with Pending status.
- The transfer reason is recorded on the new assignment.
- Notes are automatically appended with transfer context.
- The original foster's capacity frees up.
- The receiving foster's capacity is updated.
You'll need to confirm the new assignment (click the green checkmark) to change it from Pending to Active.
Choosing a Transfer Destination
The transfer dialog only shows fosters who:
- Are in Active or Training status
- Are not the current foster
The dropdown displays each foster's current assignment count and capacity to help you choose a foster with availability.
