Foster Status Types
- Active: Approved and available to receive foster animals
- Pending: New application awaiting review
- Training: Currently in orientation/training, may receive appropriate animals
- On Hold: Temporarily unavailable for new placements (vacation, medical leave, etc.)
- Inactive: No longer actively fostering but may return in the future
- Suspended: Foster privileges suspended due to policy violations or concerns
- Do Not Foster: Permanently flagged as ineligible for foster placements
Changing Status
- Open the foster's profile
- Click the three-dot menu (top right)
- Select Change Status
- Choose the new status
- Add notes explaining the change
- Click Update Status
Status Colors
Each status has a color indicator:
- Green: Active
- Yellow: Pending
- Purple: Training
- Blue: On Hold
- Gray: Inactive
- Orange: Suspended
- Red: Do Not Foster
"Do Not Foster" Flag
This is a serious flag that prevents all foster assignments.
Setting the Flag
- Click the three-dot menu
- Select Change Status
- Choose Do Not Foster
- Enter detailed reason (required)
- Confirm the change
Removing the Flag
Same process, but select a different status (usually Active).
Important Notes
- Do Not Foster prevents all new assignments
- If they're also an adopter, this affects that role too
- Status changes don't end current assignments
- On Hold is good for temporary breaks (vacation, moving)
- Training for new fosters still learning
Status Alerts
Foster profiles show alerts based on status:
- Pending: Yellow alert to review application
- Do Not Foster: Red alert with reason
- On Hold: Blue alert about temporary hold
- Training: Purple alert that they're learning
- Suspended: Orange alert about suspension
How Status Affects Assignments
Can Receive New Assignments
- Active
- Training (with appropriate pets)
Cannot Receive New Assignments
- Pending (until approved)
- On Hold
- Inactive
- Suspended
- Do Not Foster
Current Assignments Continue
Status changes don't automatically end active assignments. You must manage those separately.
Dual Role Considerations
If someone is both a foster and adopter:
- Do Not Foster automatically sets them to Do Not Adopt
- Other status changes don't sync between roles
- A yellow banner shows they have both roles
Best Practices
- Always add notes when changing status
- Review "On Hold" fosters periodically
- Check "Training" fosters' progress
- Use consistent criteria for each status
- Document reasons for suspensions or flags
