Dual Roles Explained
Some people in your system may be both fosters and adopters. This happens when:
- A foster decides to adopt one of their foster pets
- An adopter wants to start fostering
- Someone applies for both roles
How Dual Roles Work
When someone has both roles:
- They have two linked profiles (foster and adopter)
- Contact information is shared between profiles
- Each profile tracks role-specific information
- A yellow banner shows they have both roles
Navigating Between Profiles
From Foster Profile
- Look for the yellow dual-role banner at the top
- Click View Adopter Profile
- You'll switch to their adopter information
From Adopter Profile
- Look for the yellow dual-role banner
- Click View Foster Profile
- You'll switch to their foster information
Shared Information
These details sync between both profiles:
- Name
- Phone number
- Address
Changes to these fields in one profile update the other automatically.
Separate Information
Each profile maintains its own:
- Status (active, pending, etc.)
- Role-specific preferences
- History and statistics
- Notes and documents
Status Considerations
Independent Statuses
Most status changes only affect one role:
- Setting a foster "On Hold" doesn't affect their adopter status
- Archiving an adopter doesn't archive their foster profile
Linked Status: Do Not Foster/Adopt
The "Do Not Foster" flag is special:
- Setting someone to "Do Not Foster" automatically sets "Do Not Adopt"
- This ensures flagged individuals can't interact with animals in any capacity
- Removing the flag requires updating both profiles
Common Scenarios
Foster Adopts Their Pet
- Use "Convert to Adopter" feature
- Choose to keep both roles
- Process the adoption normally
- Foster assignment auto-completes when adoption is finalized
Adopter Wants to Foster
- Create a foster profile from their adopter profile
- Both profiles are automatically linked
- They can now receive foster assignments
Managing Both Roles
- Review each profile separately
- Update statuses independently (except Do Not flags)
- Track activities in the appropriate profile
Best Practices
- Check for existing profiles before creating new ones
- Keep contact information updated in either profile
- Use notes to track cross-role information
- Be aware of status implications across roles
Benefits of Dual Roles
- Complete history of interaction with your organization
- Streamlined data management
- Better understanding of the person's involvement
- Easier transitions between roles
