Setting Up PetLink

Before you can register microchips, you need to connect your PetLink shelter account to PawPlacer.

Configuring Your Credentials

  1. Navigate to Settings > Microchip Registry (marked as Beta)
  2. Find the PetLink Connection section
  3. Enter your PetLink shelter email address
  4. Enter your PetLink password
  5. Click Test Connection to verify your credentials
  6. If the test succeeds, click Save

After saving, your password is encrypted and stored securely. It will never be displayed again; if you need to change it, enter the new password and save.

What the Connection Test Checks

When you click Test Connection, PawPlacer verifies:

  • Your email and password are correct
  • The account is a PetLink Animal Professional (Shelter) account
  • API access is enabled on the account

If the test fails, you'll see a specific error message explaining what needs to be fixed.

Common Setup Issues

"Invalid credentials"Double-check your email and password by logging into petlink.net directly
"No API access"Contact PetLink support at 1-877-PETLINK to have API access enabled on your shelter account
"Not a shelter account"Make sure you're using your organization's Animal Professional account, not a personal pet owner account

After Setup

Once connected, the Microchip Registrations section becomes available on the same page. You'll see an Add Microchip button to start your first registration.
