Microchip Registration

PawPlacer integrates with PetLink, one of the largest microchip registries in the United States, allowing you to register pet microchips without leaving the app. The integration handles validation, owner account creation, and registration submission through a guided workflow.

What You Can Do

• Register prepaid microchips with owner information directly from PawPlacer
• Validate microchip codes before submitting to PetLink
• Link registrations to pet profiles in your system
• Pre-fill owner information from adopter or foster records
• Track registration status through each step of the process

Important Limitations

• Prepaid microchips only: PawPlacer does not collect payments or apply promo codes; the microchip must already be prepaid with the vendor.
• No automated transfers: if a microchip is already registered to another owner, the transfer must be handled manually through PetLink support.
• PetLink codes only: microchip codes must be 15 digits and start with "981".

Prerequisites

Before using microchip registration, you need:

1. An active PetLink Animal Professional (Shelter) account with API access enabled
2. Your PetLink login credentials (email and password)
3. Prepaid microchips from a PetLink-compatible vendor

If your PetLink account doesn't have API access enabled, contact PetLink support at 1-877-PETLINK (1-877-738-5465) to request it.

Who Can Use This

Team members with Admin, Pet Manager, or Developer roles can create and manage microchip registrations. Other team members will see a permission notice.
