The Food & Supplements feature gives your organization a central place to manage everything related to what your pets eat and the supplements they take. From tracking inventory levels to scheduling individual feedings and monitoring nutrition, it brings clarity and consistency to one of the most important parts of daily animal care.
You can access Food & Supplements from the main navigation menu under More > Food & Supplements.
What You Can Do
The feature is organized around two main views, accessible via toggle buttons in the page header:
- Products view (Package icon): Manage your inventory of food and supplement products. This is the default view when you open the page.
- Pets view (Paw icon): See which pets are eating what, track feeding schedules, and mark feedings as complete.
Products View
The Products view shows a table of all food and supplement items your organization has on file. Each row displays the product name and brand, nutritional highlights (calories and protein), the product type (food or supplement), current stock level with quick-adjust buttons, and cost per unit.
Above the table, you'll see stock alerts if any items are running low. These alerts are split into two levels. Critical alerts (orange) appear when stock has reached zero, is within a day of running out, or is at or below the minimum stock level with three or fewer days of supply remaining. Warning alerts (yellow) appear when stock is below the minimum level or estimated to run out within seven days.
You can filter the table by type (All, Food, or Supplement), search by name, and sort by any column.
Adding a Product
Click the Add Item button to open the product form. The form is organized into four tabs:
Basic Info includes the product type (food or supplement), name, brand, purchase unit (how you buy it: cups, bags, cans, etc.), a description, feeding or dosage instructions, and an optional product link.
Nutrition lets you record the default serving size, serving unit, and optional serving guidelines by pet size (extra-small through extra-large). You can also enter calories per serving, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and fiber in grams. An allergen selector lets you tag common allergens: Chicken, Beef, Dairy, Eggs, Fish, Lamb, Pork, Wheat, Corn, Soy, and Rice.
Inventory covers the cost per purchase unit, current stock level, servings per purchase (how many servings come in one unit you buy), minimum and maximum stock levels, and an expiration date. Setting a minimum stock level enables low-stock alerts.
Vendor stores the vendor name, contact information, website URL, and any additional notes.
Only the product name and type are required. Everything else is optional, so you can start simple and add detail over time.
Editing and Deleting Products
Click any row in the table to open the product in the edit form. You can also use the actions menu (three dots) on the right side of each row to choose Edit or Delete. Deleting a product will prompt a confirmation dialog before it is permanently removed.
Quick Stock Adjustments
Each row in the Products table includes + and - buttons next to the stock level. Use these to quickly increment or decrement stock by one unit without opening the full edit form; handy when you receive a delivery or use up a bag.
Pets View
The Pets view shows a per-pet breakdown of feeding schedules. At the top you'll see four summary cards: total pets with schedules, active schedules, active foods, and active supplements.
You can toggle between a Cards layout and a Table layout. The page also includes a search bar, a type filter (All, Food Only, Supplements Only), a product filter (to show only pets using a specific product), and an Active Only toggle to hide inactive schedules.
Cards Layout
In the cards layout, each pet gets its own card showing their photo, name, breed, and age category. If nutrition data is available, you'll see a summary bar with their estimated daily calorie intake and daily feeding cost. If a pet has a known allergy that conflicts with an allergen tagged on one of their products, you'll see an Allergy Conflict warning.
Below the summary, each active food or supplement schedule appears as its own entry, showing the product name, brand, serving amount and unit, frequency (such as "2x per day, daily reset"), and estimated calories per day for that item. If the schedule has a note, it appears in a small callout.
At the bottom of each schedule entry, you'll see completion buttons for tracking whether each feeding or dose has been given. For a product set to 3 times daily, for example, three numbered buttons appear. Click a button to mark that feeding as done (it fills in with a checkmark); click again to undo it. These buttons reset according to the schedule frequency: daily schedules reset each day, weekly schedules each week, and monthly schedules each month.
Hover over a schedule entry and click the pencil icon to open the Quick Edit dialog, where you can adjust the serving amount, frequency, active status, and add notes for that specific pet.
Table Layout
The table layout presents the same information in a more compact format, useful when you have many pets to review at once. It includes pagination for easy navigation.
Permissions
The Food & Supplements feature requires the Pet Manager role. Users without this role can still view the data but cannot add, edit, or delete products or schedules.
Tips
- Start by adding the products your organization uses most, then assign them to pets as feeding schedules.
- Set minimum stock levels on products you go through regularly so that low-stock alerts give you advance warning before you run out.
- Use the serving guidelines by pet size on the Nutrition tab to record manufacturer-recommended portions for different weight ranges.
- Tag allergens on products so the system can flag conflicts with pets that have known allergies.
- Use the Pets view daily to track feedings and ensure every pet is getting their meals and supplements on schedule.
