PawPlacer provides powerful search and filtering tools to help you find specific pets or groups of pets quickly. This guide explains how to use these features effectively.
Accessing the Pets List
- Click on Pets in the main navigation menu
- This takes you to the complete list of pets in your organization system
Basic Search
The search bar at the top of the pets page allows quick text searching:
- Click in the search field
- Type any search term (name, breed, color, etc.)
- Results will update as you type
- The search looks for matches in pet names, breeds, colors, and descriptions
View Options
Table View
- Shows pets in rows with columns for key information
- Allows for sorting by clicking column headers
- Provides quick access to basic information
- Best for administrative tasks and management
Filtering
Species Filter
- Use the species buttons (dog, cat, rabbit, all) to filter by animal type
- Click the appropriate icon to show only that species
- Click "All" to show all species again
Status Filter
- Use the Status dropdown to filter by pet status
- Select one or more statuses from the menu
- Pets matching any selected status will be shown
- Common status filters include:
- Available (ready for adoption)
- Fostered (in temporary homes)
- Medical Treatment (receiving care)
- Intake (newly arrived)
- Archived (no longer active)
Saving Filter Preferences
Your filter preferences are automatically saved for your next session. This means:
- Your preferred status filters will be applied when you return
- Your selected view (table or grid) will be remembered
- Your species selection will persist
Sorting Pets
In Table View, you can sort the list by various columns:
- Click on any column header to sort by that attribute
- Click again to reverse the sort order (ascending/descending)
- A small arrow indicates the current sort direction
- Sortable columns include:
- Name
- Species
- Sex
- Age
- Status
- Updated Date
Quick Preview
To quickly view details without leaving the list:
- Click the eye icon on any pet's row
- A sidebar will open showing a preview of the pet's profile
- View photos, basic information, and key details
- Click outside the sidebar to close it
Pet List Mobile View
On mobile devices, the pet list automatically adjusts:
- Cards stack vertically for easier scrolling
- Tap a pet card to expand and see more details
- All filtering options remain available through dropdown menus
- Search works the same as on desktop
Loading More Pets
The list initially shows a limited number of pets for faster loading:
- Scroll to the bottom of the grid or table
- Click the pagination controls to load more pets
- The system loads pets in batches based on your current filters
